CONTEMPORARY FIBRE ART
CONNECTED TO NATURE
By intertwining traditional textile techniques with a contemporary approach, I create sustainable fibre art deeply connected to nature, material, and seasonal cycles. My work is grounded in rural life — in the quiet rhythms, textures, surfaces, and raw honesty of the surrounding landscape.

My practice reflects a commitment to biodiversity, sustainability, and the cultural richness embedded in textile heritage, fostering a deeper connection between art and nature. While valuing traditional knowledge and preserving textile skills, I also explore how this heritage can evolve within our modern world, where tranquillity, harmony, and connection to nature play a vital role.

Inspired by the rich tapestry of natural textures that surround us, I work with natural materials and local sources of fibre and wool from my flock of fibre animals. For felting, I use “homegrown” fibre, while my woven and tufted tapestries are mainly made of leftover materials from different textile industries. Through this approach, I highlight the ecological and social responsibilities we share as artists and human beings.

Rather than replicating nature, I translate its presence — growth, change, and seasonal movement — into textile and material language. A close relationship with time, land, and fibre shapes my slow, process-led practice, exploring the connections between maker and material, landscape and body, and tradition and contemporary expression.

My process is grounded in slow, material-led methods, including wet felting, tapestry weaving, tufting and emerging natural dye techniques such as rust dyeing.

I live and work in the countryside, where the changing colours, forms, and rhythms of the seasons continually influence my work. Rather than copying nature, I focus on translating the presence of the surrounding landscape and seasonal cycles into textile form. Rural life and working with traditional skills support my artistic vision of creating more sustainable art.

Alongside my artistic practice, I teach a range of workshops and courses, mainly in felting techniques but also in other creative areas. Teaching allows me to share traditional textile knowledge and encourage others to explore creativity through making. I also have experience working as an art teacher and am currently developing a variety of online courses for individual learners, while continuing to offer in-person workshops that support hands-on learning and creative exchange.

I have actively participated in local and international exhibitions in recent years. My artworks have been exhibited in Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States, as well as on several international online exhibition platforms.

I am a member of the International Feltmakers Association, the Finnish Felt Association Filtti, the Nordic Textile Art Organisation, and the Estonian Textile Artists’ Association.
