Probably some of you have wondered about the differences between my two online courses. I will try to open up the different philosophies behind these courses and hopefully, it will give you some more clarity about these courses.
As an artist, one of the core values in my practice is a connection to nature. My work is deeply rooted in nature, influenced by the presence of it with all its colours, forms, textures and surfaces around me.
As a feltmaker, I have been working with surface design elements for over 20 years and this is my biggest passion for felting - the endless opportunities for creating various textures by using the techniques I have learnt, worked and developed over the years.
So, the inspiration from nature and my love for surface design elements joined together in my first online course, “Textures & Surfaces”. This course focuses on finding inspiration, working with your design ideas & sketches and learning different felting techniques to play more with textures and surfaces. This is quite a large and time-consuming course, which offers you guidelines to work independently and for some people, it might be hard to find the time and the discipline to keep going. “Textures & Surfaces” is an independent course, sample-based, and you can follow it at your own pace. At the same time, some people love the freedom to follow it through independently at any time, which suits them. You can make a variety of samples or try to work with everything on the same piece of felt, but the outcome is very much up to your artistic interests at the time. It also includes chapters about turning your felt into a finished wall hanging if you wish to do that.
Overall, it is a very independent course, but you are more than welcome to have my feedback and help if you get stuck. The same course has a mentorship program, where I will take you through the whole process with much more personal interaction and feedback. You can find more information about the "Textures & Surfaces" course here.

As my new course, “The Art of Felting”, covers mostly the same modules as the first course, it has a totally new structure, which should be much easier and less time-consuming for the participant to work through the course.
This course is a project-based course, which takes you through the whole process of making wall hangings, with the result of making one wall hanging based on your created design & theme.
The weekly modules and tasks are spread over 6 weeks and these weekly tasks are designed to be not too time-consuming, so you do not feel overwhelmed and pressed by putting too much time into them.
But over 6 weeks, you will be taking small but consistent steps towards your only project, which is the finished wall hanging. Do not worry, you do not have to do everything within 6 weeks! It is absolutely fine to do these steps at your own pace as well and therefore the course platform stays open at least until the end of the year or longer if this is needed.
I will be working with every participant along the way, and you will receive as much help, guidance and feedback as you wish for! Therefore, we will be working at your own pace at your chosen time. from now until the end of the year.
If you have never made a felted wall hanging but always wanted to try making one, then this course is for you. Making something new for the first time is always scary and can be quite an overwhelming experience. There are often so many internal and external factors and distractions holding us back. This course is designed to overcome these fears with small guided steps and constant feedback & support. You can avoid the failure, the time and energy spent following this simple structure, which also helps you to make many more wall hangings in the future.
More about the course
The first weeks help you to find and clarify your idea, your focus point, which will be the strong foundation for your wall hanging. You can choose your own starting point, whether it is nature, animals, culture or a specific room. It covers the whole design process, which helps you to create beautiful designs easily and you can use this system in the future for all of your other projects as well. By the end of this stage, you will have a beautiful finished design for your wall hanging!
The next stage is analysing your design and finding the most suitable felting techniques to match your design idea. This is the most guided part by me to make sure that you will choose the right techniques and finishing options for your project. We will do this part in a way which suits you the best- over emails, video calls, online messaging, etc (whatever you are the most comfortable with!).
After the felting process, the last part covers all the necessary obstacles to turn your felted piece into a professionally finished wall hanging, which you will be very proud to hang on the wall! We cover different hanging options and if you happen to have plenty of felt pieces at home, stacked up, you might find new ideas to turn them into meaningful Christmas presents, for example!
I am actually quite excited about this project, as I believe this new structure will be so much easier to follow and carry throughout the whole process of making your hanging.
So, if you are interested in taking your skills to the next level and creating more artistic work, then this is your chance to work with me. I believe in creativity and I believe that everyone is capable of taking their skills to the next level with the right tools, support system and personal guidance!
We start on the 20th of Monday and the course is open until the end of the year or longer if needed. More information and joining options are here.
If you would like to join this course later date, please get in touch and we will find the best and individual solution for everyone! There are different payment options available and if you have any more worries or questions, please feel free to get in touch.
Happy felting,
Reena
