For this exhibition, I created a series of textile works exploring material memory, surface and transformation. Working with wool, reclaimed fibres and rust-dyed materials, I used felting, weaving, tufting and experimental processes to investigate the traces that time leaves on materials.

The works developed through a process of allowing the materials to influence the direction of the work. Rust marks, layers, textures and changes in surface became ways of recording time within the textile. The direction of this exhibition grew out of the collaboration with Geert van der Vossen.

Geert van der Vossen is a Dutch artist living and working in Sweden. He works primarily with metal, often using discarded and industrial materials that carry traces of their previous lives. Through cutting, shaping, welding and transforming these materials, he explores their physical qualities, history and potential for renewal.

For The Matters of Time, his metal sculptures form a dialogue with my textile works, bringing together two very different materials and processes. His use of rusted and reclaimed metal echoes my exploration of material memory, transformation and the marks that time leaves behind.
